We are located in Brookside School in the Board of Education Office. The office is staffed by three very competent individuals: Elaine Greenan, the Business Administrator's Secretary as well as our Facility Coordinator; Kathleen Natalino, who is responsible for payroll, personnel software management, and paying the bills; and Mary Esposito, a part-time employee, who is responsible for purchase orders as well as invoicing.

I would like to take this opportunity to explain what the Business Office does for a school district, in addition to handling Board of Education Business, such as agendas, attending Board meetings and meeting minutes. Among other things, the Office is responsible for the financial health of the District, facility management, transportation services and food service operations, as well as the non-certificated staff. On a daily basis, the Office manages software which maintains our financial and personnel data, and payroll. Financial goals that are in line with the District's curriculum and educational goals are developed in this Office. Additionally, we analyze economic data, student enrollment projections and grant opportunities, keeping up with new laws and regulations from the NJ Department of Education in Trenton, and preparation of the annual audit.

The Business Office conducts risk management assessments such as evaluating existing risk to the District and managing insurance plans which include worker's compensation, liability, theft and fire, as well as our health and dental insurances.

The Business Office also oversees the efficient, resourceful and skilled Buildings & Grounds Department, headed by Supervisor Tony DeMarco, and Assistant Supervisor, Jaehoon Kim.
This coming school year will be a challenge for all school districts; all schools will have to do more with less. I want to assure everyone that our Administrative Team will remain conscientious in all financial areas pertaining to the District. Allendale is in a good position and we will continue to look for every opportunity to cut costs and to take advantage of new sources of revenue.

I look forward to hearing from you and will keep you updated as to what is happening in the finance area as it relates to school districts. If you have any questions or need any information please call me, Maria Engeleit, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary at 201-327-2020, or email: mengeleit@allendalek8.com.
